Power Piano Chords Review
Welcome to our Power Piano Chords review. We hope it helps you get a feel for what the program has to offer. We do independent reviews of music software packages with a goal of providing useful information and opinions to help evaluate some of the online courses available.
Before I get into the Power Piano Chords Review let me set the stage a bit. In the early years of my learning to play adventure (well, sometimes it seemed more like a nightmare…) I often struggled with finding the chords that sounded GOOD versus the basic chords that a lot of sheet music showed. I would buy the sheet music, play the music, and think hmmmm, that doesn’t sound like what I remember.

I first noticed this when I was doing arrangements for marching bands. I was working up an arrangement of an old Blood Sweat and Tears tune. I got the sheet music and played it and thought….something is missing here. As it turns out those guys were playing some REALLY exotic chords that whoever wrote the sheet music couldn’t figure out or didn’t know. They replaced 13th chords with basic major/minor with the occasional 7th chord thrown in. No wonder the chords sounded sooooo thin…they WERE.
So I set out to find the correct chords and brother did that make a huge difference. THERE was the chord I heard on the tape…yeah it was a long time ago but I digress.
A lot of people start out trying to play the piano and run to the exact same problem that I ran in to all those years ago. They play the sheet music and it is so ho-hum that they lose interest and either throw it out or give up on the attempt to play that tune altogether. Or worse yet, they perform it and receive an underwhelming response.
OK, now that I set the stage, let’s go back to the Power Piano Chords review. I find Power Piano Chords a wonderful tool in helping find and play those ‘exotic’ sounding chords. There’s an old expression that applies here; “If you don’t know where you’re going you’ll never get there or you’ll end up in a place you don’t want to be.” By the way…the homespun philosophy comes free of charge… But humor aside, hopefully you get the point because it IS a valid one when it comes to finding and playing chords.
Power Piano Chords is presented over the course of 39 lessons in which you can SEE every chord and, if your browser is open, you can go to a web site where you can HEAR each chord and chord progression explained and illustrated at no extra charge. All you need do is click on the links in the Table of Contents and boom….there you go!
As we progressed through our Power Piano Chords Review investigation we found it chocked full of useful information. Here’s a taste of what you get with this course:
- All major chords!
- All minor chords!
- All diminished chords!
- All augmented chords!
- All extension chords — 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th
- Chord progressions! If you don’t understand Chord Progressions…..This part is worth its weight in GOLD
Wow, that certainly would have helped me working that old BS&T tune back in the day. Even though I understood what those types of chords were I didn’t know what they SOUNDED like or at least I couldn’t identify them when I heard them! After compeleting the Power Piano Chords Review I can say that this is EXACTLY what I needed back in my early days. It would have saved an awful lot of “Blood, Sweat & Tears!” Aw, come on…you KNOW I couldn’t resist that ‘punny.’
In conclusion, in music, if you don’t know what it’s supposed to sound like then it’s awfully hard to reproduce it. Impossible, in fact.
Oops…’there I go again’… the old philosopher in me is coming out again. But the old philosopher has LEARNED a thing or two about using a common sense approach to learning. The best teachers I ever had were the ones who could SHOW me HOW and then let ME try to emulate what I had seen demonstrated. Having a model to follow can make all the difference in the world and when it comes to music….the difference between AWESOME sounding progressions and ho-hum…is it intermission yet?
