Learn To Play Piano Online

Did you know that you can get an entire college degree online?  Did you know that you can learn to play piano online?  I find that absolutely amazing.  I fought the new technology boom for a while in regards to education.  I was forced, through work, to get involved in this area a couple of years ago.

At first I was very skeptical as to how effective online learning would be.  After all, I thought, how do you get a student to do something that you can check and or test?  How do you know that someone else didn’t just do the work for them?  I came up with enough excuses for why it wouldn’t work that, had you written each on a piece of paper, you could have papered a house with them.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the excuse.  As I began to put courses together to put them online I was amazed at how creative I had to be.  OK stay with me here…do you think there might be a bit of creativity in designing a course to learn to play piano online?  OK…back to the storyline.

As I became more and more creative I found new ways of presenting material that I would have never come up with had I stayed stationary in front of a class.

All that aside, the thing that probably had the biggest impact on changing my way of thinking was the fact that students LOVED it.  They especially liked the freedom it gave them to do their lessons and study at their leisure.  They could go to work or play and come home, get comfortable, get online and get in some quality time with a minimal amount of distractions to interrupt the learning.

When I’m sharing this discovery with people this is about the point in the discussion where they invariably ask: “but how does that work with music, can you really learn to play piano online?”

My answer is simple.  It works VERY WELL!

Learning to play a musical instrument is very much an individual thing.  Yes, you can have mass classes but they, in my humble opinion, are very inefficient.  When you’re taking individual lessons is when you learn the most.

Online courses maximize individual time.  If you need more time on scales then, by all means, spend time on scales.  You can take however much time you need to master the lesson you’re on.  That is especially important in today’s world where we’re running from sunup to sundown.   So if one COULD learn to play piano online that would certainly be convenient.

Online gives you the flexibility to cope with time constraints.  If you’re taking traditional lessons you are likely to show up to a lot of them unprepared because you got sidetracked during the week and weren’t able to practice so you end up paying an instructor while you basically sit there and practice what you failed to accomplish the previous week.

Conversely, when you learn to play piano online you pay for what you use.  And that’s not the only cost savings because in a month of face-to-face lessons you can pay what you would pay for a year’s worth of online lessons.

The biggest concern is in getting to the right program for you.  Only you know what level of play you would like to achieve but once you have made that decision our reviews can help point you to courses that will help you meet your goals.

Finding the correct course or program learn to play piano online is not easy.  Most people either don’t have the time to spend or the background to find a good program.  Most people need help doing this and that’s why I started this review site.

I have a music education degree and have played professionally.  I have been a music educator for decades and have students who have made all-state band and won at the World Piano Competition.  When you combine that experience with experience gained by developing online courses I think that I have an eye and ear for what works and maybe more importantly what doesn’t.  I review these courses and look for the ones that produce.
